Advantages of silicon carbide semiconductors in solar PV inverters

blueplanet 125 TL3: string inverter with innovative SiC semiconductors

KACO new energy's SiC inverters, such as the blueplanet 125 TL3, score with their low weight and thermal properties especially. The PV-LEO research project provided the basis for the decision to use silicon carbide (SiC) as the semiconductor for this next generation of blueplanet string inverters.

The project has now been successfully completed: With the development of a 30 kVA demonstrator, which weighs considerably less than comparable inverters on the market, the project partners were able to illustrate the advantages of SiC.

The joint research project was funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany. The other partners were the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology IEE, Infineon Technologies AG and SUMIDA Components & Modules GmbH.
