blueplanet 15.0 + 20.0 TL3
These two inverters have pre-installed sockets for DC overvoltage protection. You can equip the sockets with type 1+2 surge arresters (SPD type 1+2) at any time. There are three arresters needed for each of the two MPP trackers.
blueplanet 50.0 TL3
We offer the blueplanet 50.0 TL3 in different versions. The M, XL and XL-F devices can be equipped with overvoltage protection.
XL and XL-F come ex works with SPD type 1+2 on the DC side. With the M version, DC protection can be retrofitted: Simply insert the arresters into the existing sockets – the same principle as with the blueplanet 15.0 and 20.0 TL3.
The AC overvoltage protection is implemented in the same way. All three models of the blueplanet 50.0 TL3 have pre-installed sockets for fitting type 1+2 arresters.
blueplanet 87.0 - 150 TL3
The blueplanet 125 TL3 and all inverters in the power class between 87 and 150 kVA include pre-installed DC overvoltage protection SPD type 1+2.
The overvoltage protection type 2 for the AC side can be retrofitted – as described above as a fast plug-and-play solution using a separate arrester and socket.
Protection of communication interfaces
A new feature of these inverters is the possibility to protect the communication interfaces Ethernet and RS485 against overvoltage. Implementation is carried out via an existing rail on which you can easily attach the arresters at any time.

What you need to know about type 1+2 arresters
You can obtain the required surge arresters from KACO new energy. The arresters include both coarse protection (SPD 1) and medium protection (SPD 2). This ensures increased safety in the event of lightning strikes in the vicinity: Electromagnetic fields may cause damage to PV systems close-by.
Each DC input has to be fitted with three arresters. That means that KACO new energy’s inverter design with one MPP tracker in the blueplanet 50.0 TL3 and blueplanet 87.0 TL3 - 150 TL3 pays off: Overvoltage protection of multi-MPPT inverters quickly gets costly.
A word on insurances
The installation of an overvoltage protection not only increases the service life of the inverters and offers you security for your solar investment. Another advantage is that insurance companies offer better conditions when there is surge protection in place. Some insurance companies have even made protection against overvoltage a requirement.
